The Power of Reaching Out
Post pandemic there have been a lot of discussions surrounding how being isolated has affected people and how reaching out to others can affect both your mental health and theirs. It’s no secret that mental health is important, but during these times it has become even more essential to check in on friends and family and make sure everyone is doing okay.
There are so many benefits to reaching out to friends and family. First and foremost, it lets them know that you care about them and are thinking of them. This can be a huge weight lifted off of someone who is struggling mentally. Additionally, it gives you an opportunity to talk about how you’re feeling and hopefully get some support in return. Talking about your mental health can be difficult, but it’s important to do if you’re feeling overwhelmed or struggling in any way.
We all have demanding work schedules and commitments so making time to show up can seem exhausting. Just remember that reaching out doesn’t have to be complicated. A simple text message, phone call, or even social media message can go a long way. You could even set up a virtual coffee date or game night if you’re feeling extra ambitious. The key is just to make the effort and let your loved ones know that you’re there for them.
So go ahead and reach out to someone today. You might just brighten their day and yours in the process.
Also remember if you need to talk to someone, there are plenty of resources out there for you!
If you are in crisis and a warmline can’t provide the level of support you need, you can reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988 or using the chat box at 988lifeline.org. You can also text “MHA” to 741-741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
